THE MISSION

"At Alberta Clayworks, we inspire creative discovery through the transformative power of clay. Our studio works to incite artistic exploration in Portland's diverse community, revolutionizing everyday life through hands-on connection with ceramics. We believe in the revolutionary potential of making time for creativity and building community through shared artistic experiences."

  • Alberta Clayworks is currently under development. We have signed a lease and are actively working through buildout, utilities, and infrastructure to create a fully equipped community ceramics studio.

When complete, the studio will support:

    • Workshops for a range of experience levels

    • Ongoing memberships

    • Atmospheric firings, including wood and soda

    • Workshops with visiting artists

    • Collaborative firings and shared learning experiences

Our focus is on building a space that supports serious making while remaining welcoming and accessible to a broad community.

  • Alberta Clayworks is in the active buildout phase. While we do not yet have a confirmed opening date, work is underway and progress is ongoing.

Rather than rushing toward a fixed timeline, we are prioritizing quality, infrastructure, and long-term sustainability so the studio can serve the community well once doors open.

  • At Alberta Clayworks, we aim to inspire creative discovery through hands-on engagement with ceramics. We see clay as a tool for exploration — a material that rewards patience, curiosity, and care.

Our work is rooted in the belief that making time for creativity is not a luxury, but a necessary part of a healthy and connected community. Through shared studio work, firings, and learning environments, we hope to create space for people to develop skills, relationships, and a deeper understanding of process.

  • While the studio is under construction, there are still ways to engage with Alberta Clayworks:

    • Sign up for the newsletter to receive updates on progress and opening plans

    • Participate in workshops and firings as they become available

    • Follow along as we document the buildout and early programming

We’ll share opportunities as they come online.
